ichard B. Jones is Senior Vice President of Research & Engineering at The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company. He received a BS in Aerospace Engineering and PhD in Nuclear Science and Engineering from Virginia Tech. Earlier in Rick’s career he was a member of the technical staff at Sandia National Labs, a tenured professor of mathematics, and a commercial air taxi pilot and flight instructor. Rick is responsible for the development and application of new insurance products and services for renewables and other areas in the energy marketplace. His work currently involves developing risk-based methods for insuring minimum levels of system performance and applying this type of insurance as a credit enhancement tool in financing. Rick is a frequent speaker on the role of risk management as a tool to improve reliability and safety. He has over 75 publications and meeting contributions on various topics relating to reliability and risk management, has authored a book on Reliability-Centered Maintenance entitled: “Risk-Based Maintenance - A Reliability-Centered Approach,” a book published by Wiley in 2012 on risk management called “20% Chance of Rain – Exploring the Concept of Risk,” and has over 20 patents.
