In his current position, Mr. Rockwell is responsible for operations and maintenance (O&M) of 141 MW of gas, steam, diesel, hydro, and solar generation facilities which provide the bulk of electricity for the island of Kaua'i. He is also responsible for development of KIUC-owned renewable projects, as well as negotiation, engineering review, and management of solar, biomass, and hydro purchased power contracts aimed at reaching KIUC's strategic goal of 50% supply-side renewables by 2023. Mr. Rockwell has 18 years' experience in power generation, ranging from Original Equipment Manufacturers (Solar Turbines, Inc. and General Electric, Inc.), O&M Contractors (PurEnergy, LLC), Independent Power Producers (Kaua'i Power Partners, LP), and electric utilities (KIUC). Prior to that he was an active duty Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy, and continues to serve as Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Mr. Rockwell holds a B.S. in Marine Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, and Executive MBA from the University of Hawai'i's Shidler College of Business, and is a licensed Professional (mechanical) Engineer in the State of Hawai'i.
