Energy Storage: Coming to a Theater Near You

“In a lot of ways, energy storage is a movie coming to a theater near you soon.”
-- Steve Berberich, President and CEO of California ISO

In this video, policymakers, regulators, utilities and energy storage pioneers come together to discuss how energy storage will change the face of the power grid – and why energy storage is a movie coming to a theater near you.

California legislators and policymakers set the energy storage revolution in motion with AB 2514, which required the California Public Utilities Commission to consider storage procurement goals for utilities. Since that decision, Southern California Edison has pioneered the use of storage for the grid, taking the unprecedented step of evaluating energy storage on a head to head basis with all other resources. In November of 2014, SCE announced they would procure over 260 megawatts of energy storage – a game changing decision.

“I think we’re all really excited about the role that storage can play in the future grid,” said Pedro Pizarro, president of Southern California Edison. “Part of our vision for the distribution grid is one where we can enable those customer choices for technologies, and that’s important. All of us need to be listening to those customers.”
