Head of Modernization Unit
Dr. Acha holds a Ph. D. in Power Systems from the University of Texas at Arlington, USA. He spent a Postdoctoral year at the Energy System Research Center, University of Texas at Arlington. He also holds a M. Sc. in Power Engineering from Seccion de Graduados ESIME-IPN, México City.
Responsibilities and Main interests
Network planning, power system operation, security and reliability, modeling and analysis of AC-DC electric power systems, monitoring and control in the context of wide area measurements and protection measures for large electrical power systems as applied to “intelligent networks”. He is a promoter of HVDC ties between countries and electric regions as a means to fully take advantage of energy exchanges for economics and system reliability enhancement.
Dr. Acha has been involved for quite a few years in specialized training for utility engineers in Mexico, Central and South America, and firmly believes in training to advance utility’s personnel into more deep and wide understanding of the fundamental principles that govern the functioning of electrical power systems.
Has several years of experience in power system operation and worked previously for the National Control Center (CENACE) as part of CFE, Mexico. He has been involved with various Mexican universities to direct and conduct applied research in the planning and operation of electric utilities. Has published several research papers in the areas of interest and the book “Electric Power System Fundamentals”, Sep 1, 2016.
